In February of 2019, Whitemarsh Township, located in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, contacted Chemtech International regarding FOG challenges they were experiencing with their collections system. Under Code Chapter 58, Whitemarsh Township’s stormwater management is designed to

  • Control stormwater runoff, erosion, and sedimentation
  • Improve and maintain flows and water quality
  • Prevent scour and erosion of steambanks and steambeds
  • Implement an illegal discharge detection and elimination program to address non-stormwater discharges into the Township’s storm sewer system

Problem

  • Excessive grease in multiple pump stations
  • H2S odors noticeable at pump stations
  • Corrosion and deterioration of concrete in one pump station

Solution

After a site visit and evaluation, Chemtech International proposed using Microbe Lift IND, a unique biological liquid, consisting of a consortium of microbes that are selectively designed to speed the biological degradation of problematic compounds in wastewater systems (Grease, oils, Ammonia and H2S).

Microbe-Lift IND is a highly active liquid culture consortium designed specifically for use in almost all applications. IND select cultures promote increased biological degradation capabilities in all types of designs of biological wastewater systems, nuclear power plants, open lagoon, and polluted environments. IND consortium is very effective in degrading hard degradable compounds such as fatty acids, various chemical compounds, and fibrous matters that indigenous bacteria often unable to degrade them, hence result in system performance deficiency.

Results

After 30 days of treatment, operators noticed the following:

  • Reduction of grease in pump stations. Grease cakes were eliminated, only a few small globules of grease were noticeable.
  • H2S odors were drastically reduced and not noticeable.
  • Force Main grease buildup was broken down and cleaned out of line.
